the rugby rollerball pen is beautifully sleek with rings of color, designed by ettore sottsass for acme studio. a unique feature of this pen (red cap only) is the magnetic catch on top that keeps the cap attached snugly. ettore sottsass was born in 1917 in innsbruck, austria. he earned a degree in architecture in 1939 & opened the firm sottsass associates in 1980, where he continued his work as architect & designer. the following year he set up the mephis group with colleagues, friends, & internationally renowned architects – which soon became a landmark for the contemporary avant-garde movement. in 1985, his relationship with acme – the first american company he designed for – began with four collection of jewelry. sottsass also designed ‘casa maui’ for the owners of acme studios, one of his most ambitious undertakings.
