jonathan adler first tried his hand at pottery during a summer camp when he was only twelve years old. after begging his parents to buy him his own wheel & kiln, adler spent his teenage years in the basement throwing pots. jonathan adler’s first commercial pottery venture was in 1994 when he sold some of his pots to barney’s. in 1997, with the help of ‘aid to artisans’, he spent time in peru at a workshop by the sea where a creative explosion ensued. jonathan adler then opened his first store in soho the following year. between 2002-2005, adler expanded his collection from pottery to furniture & other home accessories as well as opened an additional five stores from los angeles to miami.
be inspired by nature. that was the idea behind jonathan adler’s relief tabletop collection – mugs & pitchers that were inspired by seeds, leaves, pebbles, & other natural wonders. adler threw each prototype, masked off the patterns, and sponged away the exposed clay for the final result. each item is made of high-fired stoneware. to see the relief pottery collection, please click here.
