the quatrefoil series by acme studios was inspired by a textile design that alexander girard created during his time at herman miller. girard is one of the greatest colorists & pattern makers of the twentieth century. hired by herman miller in 1952, he led the company’s textile division and brought color & life to the modern furniture creations of george nelson and charles & ray eames. using folk art as his inspiration, girard created whimsical but sophisticated designs that have urged us toward a more playful & expressive way of life. his vision extended beyond herman miller to include many independent projects – such as the la fonda del sol restaurant in new york’s time life building.
acme studios is internationally known for their collectible pens – they were the first company to make printed pens, giving them endless possibilities for new designs. since founded in 1985, acme has branched into different products such as personal accessories, wallets, watches & jewelry, along with their unique assortment of writing tools. these collections are the result of collaborations with many well-known designers from all different backgrounds & specializations, giving acme special status in the design industry.
