cor unum (latin for ‘one heart’) has been producing hand-made ceramics since 1953. clay, water, and fire are the ingredients for life in our world, and these elements form the basis for cor unum’s earthenware products. cor unum is based in a town in the netherlands that is well known as a european ceramics center, but today there are also locations in 13 european countries, japan, taiwan, hong kong, brazil, and the united states. cor unum has worked with many great designers to create their pieces and numerous museums have purchased items from their collection to display, including the museum of modern art in nyc and san francisco.
in 2007, ineke hans designed the sugar candy mountain center piece for cor unum. ineke hans’ work has evolved in many ways during her career. she is mainly a designer, with the impulses of a sculptor, and the industrial experience needed to give products a commercial life. her work investigates the psychological roots of products, perceiving and playing with the interaction between people and objects. sugar candy mountain is made from glazed earthenware.
