the bettina table service is alessi’s most innovative design in tableware and was designed by future systems, the architects who worked on the tea and coffee towers in 2003. according to jan kaplicky of future systems, ‘every single piece reflects a specific design philosophy of mine and future systems. beauty, flexibility, practicality. pieces with long life ahead. they are not fashionable and maybe the multiple functionality of the line will generate larger interest by wider groups of people.’ the bettina cutlery was developed through a process of experimentation and contemporary interpretation, the end result being a thoroughly sensual and modern cutlery set. according to alberto alessi, ‘some of his (jan kaplicky) choices were perhaps controversial, such as the spoon with the bowl bent towards the left, but i can assure you that it works perfectly well, and in fact gives the user the sense that they are performing a brand-new culinary gesture.’ made of 18/10 stainless steel.
