the bettina table service is alessi’s most innovative design in tableware and was designed by future systems, the architects who worked on the tea and coffee towers in 2003. the glassware is one of the most unusual pieces in the series since each glass actually consists of two separate part; the cup is made of crystal clear glass and the base is PMMA. the design makes them appear to be a single element but at the same time the ritual of separating the cup from the base and placing it in the hand prompts to find a new approach to drinking, a contemplative one that provokes more awareness to one’s gestures.
