thomas eyck began his own company in 2007 in order to distribute exclusive design products. according to eyck, the union of design and material along with careful product development are essential to the design process.
‘woven willow’ is a new collection introduced by thomas eyck and designed by stefan scholten and carole baijings. this series uses a 17th century dutch weaving technique in which the willow wicker is cleaved into very small pieces and used almost like a textile. their fresh and innovative approach to this very old technique has resulted in a brightly colored collection of bowls, napkin rings, etc.
the wicker as well as the grid of the woven willow inspired scholten and baijings to combine several materials into their designs. in the instance of these crystal items, the willow itself has completely disappeared leaving a unique imprint on the crystal.
