both of these items were designed by george nakashima in the late 1940’s, and have recently been added back into knoll’s product line.
george nakashima is best known for his unique pieces of furniture, which are distinguished by their elegance and beautiful lines. his pieces are prized for their respect of both the natural forms of the tree and the inherent grain of the wood. nakashima was an american woods craftsman and poet who studied architecture and traditional japanese carpentry during world war II. he was also a recipient of the gold medal for craftsmanship from the amerian institute of architects & the hazlett award.
