nicknamed “meigs’ old red barn” after its designer, general george meigs, the national building museum is one of washington’s most revered landmarks. housed within the old pension building, the museum features the union frieze, which encompasses the building. built just after the civil war it still gains great appreciation by architectures, engineers and urban planners alike.
