shiro kuramata is a japanese designer, who founded the kuramata design office in tokyo in 1965. from 1965 until his death in 1991, he designed some of the
most significant and lasting items
ever produced. besides his
connection with the japanese design
world, kuramata's significance in
western design was shown first with
the milan design group memphis in 1987.
cappellini made him its premier
designer to introduce their products on
the international stage. his work is
represented in the permanent
collections of the museum of decorative
arts in paris, in the museum of modern art in new york city, of new york moma and at the museum of modern art in toyama.
