the 'tea ship' pendant lamp by hannover germany based dietlind preiss is an amalgam of fantasy, artistry, and humor. upon retirement ms preiss began producing a series of works incorporating found objects and her newly developed skills in metal working, ceramics and lighting.
the tea ship piece has a nautical theme, with real sea shells mixed into the bead work.
this is a one-off piece from her studio.
"Technical perfection is important to me. But not the kind you find encapsulated in nondescript machine housing – no, I mean the technical perfection that produces a riot of scintillating visual excitement. Like a sort of all-year-round Christmas tree.
To this end, I have no inhibitions whatsoever when it comes to using everything the consumer society has to offer in the way of materials and machinery. I use creative kitsch from Taiwan just as I utilize objects and elements reflecting other cultures and eras…not to forget a whole lot of simple junk and waste.
...it is possible that – apart from the visual perception of shape, color and motion – the beholder might even also discover hitherto concealed elements of irony, unfamiliarity and a touch of psychology too."
