the berlage institute report is published twice a year and focuses on the changing profession of architecture/urbanism and its intersection with contemporary culture. hunch aims to break down boundaries - between architecture and other disciplines, between popular and academic, between "students" and professionals. it presents the research pursued at the institute, along with special events, interviews, and the work of visiting lecturers and guest-professors.
the berlage institute is an international postgraduate laboratory for education, research and development in the fields of architecture, urban planning and landscape design. social and cultural phenomena relevant to the metropolis of tomorrow are the central focus. the berlage institute aims to connect its research to real urban conditions by seeking collaboration with planners, researchers, developers and local authorities.

hunch 10 presents mediators, an edition that addresses the workings of “mediation” on and through the disciplines of architecture and urbanism. bringing together significant figures - directors, advisors, critics, curators, decision-makers, editors, and academics - operating between the various realms of public, architecture, urbanism, culture and business through influence and facilitation, hunch 10 exposes mediation by way of authorship, historiography, anecdotes, statistics, profiles, and photography. the material in this issue consists largely of lecture transcriptions and interviews accumulated during spring 2004/2005 at the berlage institute, along with some newly commissioned material.
