inspired by the glass objects by alvar aalto, this wooden serving tray was recently designed & produced by iittala. made of birch with an oak veneer surface, this tray is perfect for serving cheese, etc. hand wash only.
born in finland in 1898, alvar aalto is one of the greatest names in modern architecture and design thanks to his original style & unique talents. the aalto collection made waves in 1937 when first presented at the paris world exhibition. alvar aalto believed that good design should be a part of everyday life – therefore he created sensible products that enhance everyday living. however, aalto never said how his glass objects should be used because he wanted the end user to decide. this freedom to interpret the function may be what has helped keep the aalto collection so contemporary and fresh. the undulating forms of the objects in the aalto collection are like the finnish landscape with its thousands of lakes – beautiful, alive, & untamed.
