the slow glow light, formerly known as the fatlamp, was designed by next architects and is possibly one of the most unusual lights that we offer. it's somewhat of a lava lamp in reverse. instead of an evacuated bulb or a bulb filled with halogen, the slow glow lamp is filled with fat. turn on the light and the fat slowly melts while the light becomes gradually brighter.
this unique lamp is also a great discussion piece and easily lends itself to artistic interpretation. for example, the slow glow lamp is sluggish and fat -representative of our current culture (at least here in the united states). feel free to develop your own interpretation of this thought-provoking light!
based in amsterdam and beijing, next architects is driven by the potentials that arise from contemporary cultural, social and urban developments. a motive behind many projects is mobility and accessibility, where on different scales the relation between urban development and movement evolves. bart reuser, marijn schenk, michel schreinemachers and john van de water are next architects. they have been educated at the university of technology in delft, the netherlands, and teach at numerous institutions.
