well, now, here's a shower curtain that we can relate to. it's possibly the most famous sign in the world: the "welcome to fabulous las vegas, nevada" sign at the south end of the strip.
a little history about the sign: it was made in 1959 by betty willis and ted rogich. las vegas boulevard was at the time the only highway to and from california, and the sign was erected so that visitors would get an appropriately las vegas-ish greeting to the city. the sign's geometric design is typical of the googie architecture movement, which was popular at the time.
the sign's been moved several times to accomodate development, the last time south of tropicana boulevard and the southernmost high rise hotel on the strip, mandalay bay.
I-15 is now the major route into las vegas for you los angeleans. but the sign's still an icon. you can hardly pass it, day or night, without seeing a carload of tourists parked up on the divider and taking pictures of it.
