these pieces are called "nuvem" (portugese for "cloud") for a good reason. they're made of aluminum wire (resulting in a matte silver appearance), tangled then squashed and spun, which makes them light and airy. this collection is another campana brothers adventure in wire, similar to and yet very different from their blow-up collection.

as you can imagine, these bowls are kind of tough to make. as the good folks at alessi said, "we had quite a time finding a manufacturing process that would both preserve the exquisitely artisanal, manual, almost sketch-like flavor of the concept while at the same time allowing us to produce it at a reasonable price." we, for one, are glad they found it.
