this bookend was designed by timothy richards based on photographs that he took and elevation plans of the white house, which was designed by the irish-born architect james hoban. the detail on the bookend really is astonishing. up close, you get a real sense of the work and care that went into both this bookend and the building that it was based on, down to such fiddly details as the door handles, which are lead castings handpainted in gold.
