'glow sticks' designed by justin parker for esque design in 2006.
these clever oil lamps blur the line between candles and oil lamps. they look like candlesticks, but the long glass barrels are hollowed out to hold a reservoir of oil, with a glass wick holder that fits into the top of the lamp.
glow sticks are designed to diffuse the light from their wicks and fill a room with a soft, warm glow - and to add to this effect, the glass itself is infused with a glow-in-the-dark substance so your glow stick will glow if it is lit or not.
dimensions: approximately 12"h - 16"h
*note: due to the handmade nature of these items the size, shape, and color may differ from the pictures shown.
esque design is justin parker and andi kovel, glassblowers from portland who incorporate organic shapes, amorphous forms and multiple layers of colored glass in their pieces. parker is one of the top head glass blowers, or “gaffers”, in the country, while kovel is widely known as a glass blower, installation artist and painter. both have had their work exhibited around the world and on tv. their company name “esque” is after the suffix “-esque”: an acknowledgement that nothing can be created, artistically or otherwise, without outside influences.
