best known for designing the paris métro entrances, hector guimard’s most important buildings include castel beranger, hotel guimard, and the synagogue - 10 rue de pave. like his contemporaries antoni gaudí in barcelona and joseph hoffmann in vienna, guimard’s work reflects the form, color, and light of turn-of-the-century paris. he produced more than one-hundred major projects until he moved to the u.s. in 1938. he died in new york in 1942.
