yoshua okon (b. 1970, Mexico City) has largely used the space in front of his video camera to
document performances that either he executes or orchestrates. his work imbues satire and
caricature, putting in tension and notions of non-fixed morality and
ethics to be arbitrated by the viewer. Parking Lotus was a project
for which Okon asked security guards around Los Angeles to meditate
in the different parking lots were they work. These actions were
videotaped and photographed. The project is divided into 2 versions,
a series of eight color photographs which include the LASGMM (Los
Angeles Security Guard Meditation Movement) manifesto and a one
channel video-installation projected monumentally as a loop onto a
self-standing wall in which one by one, three guards levitate (as
they meditate) until they disappear. For Okon's Mini Wrong Gallery installation, a 3 dimensional object was modeled from the original photo images. It was designed with a hidden magnet that enables the "Parking Lotus" to float in the gallery by being attached to the back door. It can also be secured to any steel surface or attached to the included steel plate accessory. dimensions: 5.75" x 6". painted resin. edition of 500. shipping June, 2006

In 1995 Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset began their collaboration on a wide range of installations, performances and environmental works. architectural and social structures are reorganized in order to investigate the underlying desires of everyday objects.
'the projects often provide a possibility of actual change: a change of social structures in smaller scale, alterations of modernistic design or projects which accentuate the options for alternative ways of presenting art within the museum or gallery. the emphasis is put on the deconstruction and reconstruction of meaning in predetermined or institutionalized spaces.'
the elmgreen and dragset wrong Gallery project 'Forgotten Baby' was to park an Austin Mini Cooper with a wax baby in the rear seat in a car bed unattended for a week. the 1:6 scale version is a replica of that event. (text courtesy of cerealart). 23 in l x 12 in w x 9 in h. limited edition of 500. there is a $25 shipping charge on this item.
