new for the alessi spring collection 2005, “il caffe alessi” stems from the tea and coffee towers project alessi organized in 2003. in this project 22 international architects attempted industrial design for the very first time by designing a coffee and tea set. these items were constructed mainly from silver. the production costs were very high making it impossible for a majority of alessi fans to acquire these sets. so, alessi has introduced for spring/summer 2005 “il caffe alessi” these four simple porcelain cups were designed by four of the architects that participated in the first project. the four architects are wiel arets, massimiliano e doriana fuskas, toyo ito, and denton, crocker, and marshall. each set comes with two mocha cups in bone china and saucers.
