designed by piet hein (1905–1996), a danish poet and scientist. he designed the 3-dimensional "super-egg” based on a 2-dimensional super-ellipse, a fabulous mathematical shape that is a cross between a rectangle and an ellipse. amazingly, it is able to stand upright on both ends. the "super-egg" is made from stainless steel and includes a gray leather bag.
it was designed in 1965 in denmark where it is still made. this very popular creation is a major article of export to the USA due to its renaissance as a toy.
piet hein in the 50's and 60's contributed to make scandinavian design become world-renowned;
in architecture, urban planning, and furniture making.
