winy maas jacob van rijs nathalie de vries of MVRDV: "coffee culture. no two people drink tea or coffee in the same way. everyone has his or her own preference, black or white, with sugar or without. can we imagine an integral tea and coffee set that facilitates a coffee at home with friends, a formal business meeting in the office, a picnic in the park or a meeting on the high-speed train? how would one give form to such a versatile yet utilitarian object? a perfect cylinder is taken as the point of departure. by opting for a thermos flask, the traditional tea and coffee set is reduced from five elements to three. the user chooses between tea or coffee, the order of the day. the three volumes (tea/coffee, sugar and milk) have the same diameter but vary in height in the ratio of an average cup of tea/coffee. stacking the elements negates the need for a tray. in its totality, the set offers the user a series of surprises, all enriching the ritual of sharing a cup of tea or coffee." designed in cooperation with duzan doepel.
production limited to 99 copies, plus 3 author's proofs. available exclusively through max protetch gallery. price subject to change.
