massimiliano fuksas and doriana o. mandrelli: “a continuous, flexed, fluid plane, like our recent designs; material is the sole protagonist. the design, understated, is simply an idea. a lightweight, translucent, impalpable object. a ‘sheet’ of delicate porcelain, of silver, plastic or glass enclosed on itself. asymmetrically, it is set on a sinuous plane. our research is into material and colour. the conception is a process undertaken in three dimensions. models, casts, trials, different materials: these are the experimental pathway that gives life to the simplicity of a fold, to resistance and the possibility of the object. they can be composed as patterns in an endless interplay of materials, dimensions and different colours. they can be modified and combined without limits. ‘folding’ gives strength to matter.”
