dezsö ekler: “the family. it was the human character of the four vessels that was one concern: the coffee pot to have a masculine and the teapot a feminine form, the milk jug being a girl in spirit and the sugar bowl a boy. the other puzzle was whether the four objects could be made to fit together, since in nature the shape of an object is always defined as the part of a larger whole. one might propose that design of functional objects based on pure (abstract) geometric shapes is as erroneous as our current conceptions based on human individuality. we behave as if we existed independent of everything and everybody, when in fact we carry in our destinies and our personalities the faces of our predecessors and contemporaries, the ‘stamp’ of our parents and children. the elements of the set i have designed are as if members of a family, each carrying in its personality traces of the others.”
