among the earliest commercial successes of the modern design movement, alvar aalto’s white birch side chairs - known as chairs 65 and 66 - are simple and sturdy enough for everyday use just about anywhere. clean and compact, their straightforward style coordinates with today’s contemporary interiors. these chairs, introduced between 1933 and 1935, were two of the earliest pieces to use aalto’s inventive L-leg, which combines
solid birch with a 90-degree bend made of birch plies. lightweight and durable,
they remain a favorite, especially for smaller spaces.
the seat has a solid birch core with a birch edge and laminate or birch veneer face material. the back is molded birch plywood.
