because it is timeless, the drinking set no. 4 from the year 1856 is lobmeyr’s most successful one. it is one of about a hundred series that ludwig lobmeyr designed himself. the clear shape & fine light appearance made it special for that time and a classic for today. the material is very fine (muslin) glass that is mouthblown in wooden molds. named after the finely woven french fabric, muslin glass is crystal blown to a thickness of only .7 – 1.1 mm. it appears delicate, but is remarkably resilient thanks to its inner elasticity & formal construction. these glasses have a very dainty rim, creating an unforgettably delicate contact between mouth, glass, & refreshment. to see this collection with an engraved pearl border, please click here.
’the fascination about glass? it is one of the oldest materials mankind understood to shape. imagine: you melt some sand & look at the result.’-- ted muehling
the fascination for crystal has been the driving force behind lobmeyr for almost 200 years. through six generations the properties of crystal have been tested & researched and its handling & forming properties explored. whether it’s wafer thin muslin glass or glass that owes its shape to cutting – lobmeyr reinstates the beauty of this omnipresent material, bringing elegance & refinement back to everday life.
